Bei einem Orthonormalsystem müssen die Vektoren (nur) rechtwinklig aufeinenader stehen.
Bei einer Orthonormalbasis müssen diese nicht nur rechtwinklig aufeinander stehen, sondern auch gleichzeitig eine Basis des Raumes bilden.
Zum Beispiel bildet
\( \begin{pmatrix}1\\0\\0\end{pmatrix}, \begin{pmatrix}0\\1\\0\end{pmatrix} \)
ein Orthonormalsystem, aber keine Orthonormalbasis des \(\mathbb{R}^3\), während
\( \begin{pmatrix}1\\0\\0\end{pmatrix}, \begin{pmatrix}0\\1\\0\end{pmatrix}, \begin{pmatrix}0\\0\\1\end{pmatrix} \)
sowohl ein Orthonormalsystem als auch eineOrthonormalbasis des \(\mathbb{R}^3\) ist.
